At Level Up Healthcare, I, Dr. Shirley Wang, MD am an integrative functional medicine doctor here to help you feel your best.
My professional goals have changed in response to my own personal and spiritual growth.
When I started working as a doctor, my goal was to help patients be healthy. As time went on, I realized just being not sick was not enough and that there was room for optimization of one's health and wellness. Then, I moved on to integrating energy and spirituality into my work as I found that joyful living was the endgoal, not just having a healthy body.
So that, in a nutshell, is how I transitioned from focusing on health, to adding wellness, and then to integrating happiness.
When I graduated from medical school, I quickly realized that only having a prescription pad as the only tool in my toolklt was sadly lacking. I then learned from my naturopathic colleagues and became the naturopath MD whom people sought when they wanted natural options and either still wanted the conventional options or wanted to use their medical insurance. Then, I learned about energy medicine and had profound experiences that I write in my blog, and I transitioned from being the naturopath MD to the energy and spiritual naturopath MD!
What does functional mean?
Functional means that we are restoring the function of the body so it can heal. It means that we are addressing the root cause of a problem instead of treating symptoms.
What does integrative mean?
Integrative means that we are drawing from different perspectives, modalities, and treatments for a true holistic approach. The more tools in the toolkit, the better. We also look at the person and not just the illness, so we aim for a wholistic way of doing things.

*I am not in network with insurances, but for PPOs, I give superbills so you can get reimbursed by your insurance.
WHAT'S A DEDUCTIBLE?
*Most PPOs require deductibles of $3-5K per year to be paid out of pocket before they start sending out reimbursement checks.
CAN I USE MY HSA HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNT?
*Yes!
WHAT ABOUT LABWORK AND PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS?
*Tests and meds are covered by insurance depending on the lab you go to, like Quest or Labcorp, or pharmacy you go to. It doesn't matter if the ordering doctor is in network.
